 Discus fish is one of the most lovely fish species you can keep and enjoy in your fish tank, the problem always lies in the growth rate of the Discus fish when beginners keep it and try to grow it out. 

What is the Average Growth Rate of Discus Fish? 

Discus fish typically have a slow growth rate, normally reaching maturity at around 1 year of age. They can continue to grow for several more years, but the growth rate will slow down over time. The exact growth rate can vary depending on a number of factors, including diet, water quality, and genetics.

But, how big can discus fish grow in size? 

Discus fish can reach a maximum size of around 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) in diameter, although their average size is typically smaller, around 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) in diameter. This size can vary depending on the specific species of Discus and environmental conditions.

How To Grow Discus Fish in your Tank?

The solution to growing out discus fish is simple; the key elements to growing out your discus fish fast are good water quality and a lot of quality food, mainly beef heart.

Water quality is represented simply by the number of water changes you can make. if you are growing a juvenile discus, you will need to do a 25% water change at least daily based on the volume of your tank. 

On the other hand, beef heart is considered the best food you can rely on to grow your discus fish, this is because beef heart contains the highest protein percent and can easily be digested by the discus fish.  discus farms and breeders only use the beef heart mix to grow discus fish. 3 feeding times a day will be the perfect routine for growing out your discus fish. 

 Discus requires warm water starting from 29 degrees Celsius. Still, to grow up discus faster, I keep my discus growing tanks at 32 degrees celsius "fish's metabolic rate increases as the surrounding water temperature increases."

Rules to Grow Discus Fish Fast: Best Discus Growth Rate

1. Bare bottom tank to avoid food waste left behind 
2. Clean water - at least 25% water change daily the more, the better.
3. Keep your water temperature from 86 °F to 89 °F 
4. Feed your discus beef heart mix 3 times a day
5. Best water parameters: nitrate below 20 mg, phosphate below 1.2 mg/l, TDS from 100 to 150

Discus Fry Growth Rate

Discus fry can grow relatively fast if you maintain regular water changes and feed them live brine shrimp and daphnia. they can reach two and a half inches in three months.
